A structural Engineer plays a certain role within a project. To work in the design, design review, installation, maintenance and repair of footings, foundations, roofing and other structural members.

Design structural and general construction projects of routine to moderate level complexity which are normally limited in scope and size, although they may do significant parts of and assist higher level engineers in the very large and complex projects e.g. Burj Dubai.

Work includes consulting with operating departments to determine the feasibility and cost estimates of requested projects, designing in-house structural and other projects for new construction and renovation by preparing design concepts, calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates, and later monitoring and inspecting all related construction.

Analyze, evaluate and make recommendations regarding repairs and structural improvements for existing facilities; prepare or provide input to the development of structural capital improvement projects; estimates and schedules to resolve problems; and may supervise, instruct, train, assign, review and evaluate the work of technicians and tradesmen.

Structural engineer scope of work also includes reviewing the schematic design, design development and construction drawings prepared by outside consultants for design efficiency and structural soundness; and reviewing all design, maintenance, construction and renovation work for conformance to current local, state and federal codes and regulations, and to professional and industry standards.

Engineer preparer?s or coordinate the preparation of bid documents, plans and specifications for outside contract work, provide contract administration, construction monitoring and inspections for new construction, renovations and major repair projects, and perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
