NEC to Supply GPRS/GSM Mobile Handsets to China Mobile
Tokyo, Singapore and Beijing, May 20, 2002 - NEC Corporation (NEC) announced that it has started supplying its GPRS/GSM based mobile handsets to China Mobile, the largest mobile service operator in China, for its mobile internet service "Monternet on GPRS" which commenced operation on May 17th. NEC's "DB7000" handsets have been selected by China Mobile as one of its "Recommended Terminals".

Based on the Japanese design, which is the most popular model in Japan, NEC's "DB7000" handsets are specially refined to adapt to "Monternet on GPRS" service. Distinctive features of the handset include a larger screen with color display (1.9 inches) and dramatically improved sound quality of ringing tones. Users can also send and receive e-mails and enjoy mobile internet. The handset is GPRS /GSM-compatible not only for e-mails, the built-in WAP browser also allow users to access a broad range of "Monternet on GPRS" services with the handset such as maps, games and entertainment, weather reports, restaurant guides, melody ringing tones and wallpapers.
