Iloilo Kawayan Marketing, which specializes in bamboo products, started operation in January 2006 with its plant located at Brgy. Naslo, Maasin, Iloilo. Maasin, the bamboo capital of the Philippines located 29.5 kilometers north-west of Iloilo City, is abundant with high quality bamboo trees covering more than 3,000 hectares which Iloilo Kawayan Marketing converts to World Class chopsticks barbeque sticks and toothpicks. The sanitized bamboo raw materials pass through the latest bamboo processing technology at the companys plant where 21 well trained workers produce an average number of sticks per month to meet the supply requirements of the nations leading restaurants and department stores. Iloilo Kawayan Marketing is run by a well-knit organization that oversees the production and marketing operations of the company which sets its eye on opening more markets in the Philippines as well as abroad. It is born with the governments OTOP (One Town, One Product) initiative, promoting livelihood and tourism outside Metro Manila. With the local governments of Maasin and the province of Iloilo fully supporting the companys venture, bamboo production in the municipality has increased, covering more hectares to accommodate the growing market for the bamboo products. Neighboring municipalities are likewise rowing bamboo, assuring a steady supply of raw materials. This in turn creates employment and livelihood for the municipality of Maasin and neighboring towns.
