An introduction to David Hanman Engineering Services

David Hanman Engineering Services was incorporated in Brunei Darussalam in early 1996. A growing need for a locally based telecommunications consultancy, construction and implementation services firm was identified with the expansion of Private and Public GSM networks under DataStream Technologies, as well as further expansion by Jabatan Telekom Brunei. Typically, prior to the establishment of DHES, most of this business was procured from outside of Brunei. After DHES was established, the company rapidly gained a sound reputation with all of its customers and by 1997 was undertaking supply, installation and consultancy business with all of the key market players, including DST, JTB, RTB, Lucent Technologies and MINDEF. Within two years of becoming established, DHES was gaining over 80% of the local business in the market, with an annual turn-over in excess of One-Million US Dollars per-annum.

Late in 1998, DHES opened an office in Singapore and by 1999 was undertaking consultancy work for Starhub Pte Ltd(a new GSM 1800 operator) in procuring base-station sites for the customer and designing over 40 monopole sites as a turn-key solution, a contract worth in excess of one-million US Dollars.

In 2000, the management of DHES began investigating other regional markets and in particular the upcoming network expansions in Thailand and Philippines, as well as looking at world markets, companies in competition with DHES and the viability of becoming a key market-player in the SE Asian marketplace. Thailand was selected as our new center of operations, primarily because of the enormous potential identified, with 4 cellular networks being installed or expanded, and up to 7,000 new base-stations to be installed in the period 2000 to 2003. Additionally, advantages were seen in the high-quality manufacturing base that is well established in Thailand. David Hanman Engineering Services Ltd was incorporated in Thailand in the second quarter of 2001. Formed with partners offering a complete range of experience in the markets, the company was immediately invited to bid on contracts by companies such as Alcatel, CP-Orange, Motorola, Lucent Technologies and Siemens.

DHES has undertaken projects for Alcatel, Bellwater and for Motorola on the TA-Orange GSM 1800 network(50 towers constructed and 150 RF installations), as well as microwave implementation projects in Thailand and Brunei Darussalam. We have also implemented 90 CDMA1X base-stations in Thailand for the Hutch CDMA network.

DHES has provided consultancy services for Alcatel in providing Special Solutions for sites with restricted access, as well as specialized structural analysis services for Motorola.
