D. C. Ghose & Co. (A.) Pvt. Ltd.

Company Introduction

It is often said of the Ghose family that tea runs in their veins. That an understandable exaggeration, given that five successive generations of the family have devoted their entire lives to tea.

Debes Chandra Ghose grandfather Gopal Chandra Ghose, a lawyer in the prosperous town of Jalpaiguri, established India first native owned tea plantation in 1879, and thus began the family tea tradition. In the decades that followed, the stories of Indian tea and the Ghose family became so closely interwoven they are almost impossible to tell apart. With the involvement of each new generation, the family roots in the business grew deeper and stronger. There were good times for the industry when the family prospered, there were also those trying times when the family strived hard to keep the rollers turning.

The tea business is now guided by the fifth generation, and the Ghose family has emerged as a golden thread with the past that has remained unbroken, untarnished, for more than one century. As we look back on this remarkable history of 130 years, we are humbled by the many sacrifices and unquestioning devotion to tea of the generations past, which have enabled us to reach where we are today.

The legacy of Debes Chandra Ghose and his family continues till this day. Each expression of Silverpot draws on the company long history, rich traditions and legendary dedication to quality teas.
