We all know that transfer activities are done daily by wheelchair users, caregivers, therapists and nursing staff. Â Getting into and out our bed can be a daunting task. Â With the latest invention from Nanyang Polytechnic, the wheelchair fitted with a retractable rear wheel facilitates user transfer without lifting and turning thereby preventing unwanted injuries. Â The new award design adds a new dimension to the manual wheelchair.
Currently, the rear wheel is obstructing placement of transfer board which is often used during lateral transfer. Â With the wheel retracted, the wide unobstructed seat will allow for easier positioning of the transfer board and increase stability during transfer. Â The wheelchair can be fitted with Left or Right Retractable Wheel or both Left and Right.
